Ideally this happens when both mom and baby are ready. Whether it's around 6 months, when infants require complementary foods to meet their nutritional needs (baby lead weaning) or when they are 4 years old, or 4 months old - there is no right time and no right answer, as each situation is unique. Health Canada recommends exclusive breastfeeding for the first six months of life, and continued breastfeeding with complementary foods for up to two years and beyond.
