PLEASE READ BEFORE WE MEET
In-Clinic Consultations - please arrive 5-10 minutes early to get comfortable and settled. Bring your baby, a support person if you like and any bottles or pumping equipment you use. Wear comfortable clothing that makes breastfeeding or pumping easy and relaxed. For your comfort, slippers are available at the entrance if you’d like to use them, and there is a hanger for coats/jackets in the hallway.
Home Visits – my fee includes home visits within the catchment area (see below). A $30 travel fee applies to home visits outside of that area. After booking your appointment you will receive an email with your Intake Forms, these are sent off automatically and at times they end up in the "junk", "updates" or "promotions" folder of your inbox. Please fill these forms out at least 12- 24 hours before you appointment time.
The forms MUST be filled out PRIOR to the consultation so we can focus on your care instead of the paperwork.
On the day of our meeting, please have all house pets in a different room for the duration of our appointment. During the first 10-15 minutes we will be going over your intake form and health history, followed by an assessment of the mother-baby dyad, weighing the newborn infant (if your baby is older and you would like a weight check, please let me know prior to the visit), feeding assessment (ideally the baby would be due for a feed), oral assessment of the baby, breast exam, latch assessment, flange fitting if needed, management of any issues present, and development of the care plan. At times, if the challenges are significant or urgent we might need to prioritize and spend more time on finding the correct approach and problem solve on the spot, thus we may not finish all of the tasks planed for a typical appointment (ie: breast exam, flange fitting, Q&A etc). In this case you may want to book a follow up later on. If I don't have another consultation right after your appointment I usually stay longer to finish off a full assessment at no cost to you.
Some dyads will require more than one consultation as not all issues can be resolved in one visit. If that is the case, a follow-up may be recommended. You will receive your personalized care plan and the summary of what we discussed within 24 hours following the appointment.
If you would like me to share my report and the care plan with your baby’s pediatrician or any other health care provider please let me know prior to our appointment.
Virtual Appointments – After booking your appointment you will receive an email with your Intake Forms, these are sent off automatically and at times they end up in the "junk", "updates" or "promotions" folder of your inbox. Please fill these forms out at least 12- 24 hours before you appointment time.
The forms MUST be filled PRIOR to the consultation, so that we can focus on your care and not the paperwork.
If you are having a prenatal consultation, or consultation related to starting solids, or back to work pumping plan, please make yourself comfortable, have pen and paper nearby, as well as your pump and baby bottles (if applicable).
If you are having a breastfeeding consultation, please have anything that you might need during the feed nearby. A support person is welcome for additional help (moving the camera around, helping you with positioning etc).
If you are running late for your virtual appointment, kindly let me know ahead of time. If I am unaware that you will be late, I generally wait 20 minutes and then log out. If you join within the 20 minutes we can certainly use the remaining time, however you might need to schedule a separate appointment if I was not able to answer all of your questions during the remaining time.
During the first 5-10minutes of a breastfeeding consultation, we will be going over your Intake Form and health history, followed by a feeding assessment (ideally the baby would be due for a feed) latch assessment (if possible virtually), management of any issues present and development of the care plan.
Some dyads will require more than one consultation and if that is the case, a follow-up may be recommended. You will receive your personalized care plan and the summary of what we discussed within 24 hours following the appointment.
If you would like me to share my report and the care plan with your baby’s pediatrician, or any other health care provider, please let me know prior to our appointment.
Follow-Up Visits for existing clients– follow-up appointments are 1 hour long. During the follow-up we will discuss the existing care plan, manage any new challenges that have developed and modify the existing care plan in order to help you reach your new breastfeeding goals or continue working on your current ones.
E-mail support – you can email me with your questions/concerns related to your care plan or with updates at anytime. I will respond to your inquiry within 24 hours or less. I am committed to providing comprehensive support to new mothers throughout their breastfeeding journey. That's why I offer email support to my clients for 48 hours after the initial home visit, virtual consultation or any follow-up appointment.
If your question or concern is urgent please TEXT me at 647 239 6262 with the word “URGENT” and then describe your situation. If I do not respond within 30 minutes, I may be with another client, or not near my phone. In that case, expect a response the same day during my working hours. If this is an emergency, please seek urgent care, call your pediatrician, call Telehealth at 1 866 797 0000, go to your nearest emergency department or call 911. Milk Flow Lactation Clinic does not deal with any emergency situations.
Cancelations/Refunds/No-shows
We require a 24 hour notice for all the changes and cancelations. If the appointment is canceled in less than 24 hours a $75 cancelation fee applies. This cancelation fee will be subtracted from the amount you paid initially and the remaining amount will be refunded to you within 24 hours.
If you have an online consultation scheduled and the intake forms (consent forms and health history forms) are not filled out and sent back to the clinic 12-24 hours prior to the consultation, the consultation will be canceled and a $75 cancelation fee will be applied.
If the client does not show up for an in-person or virtual appointment, the fee for that appointment is non refundable. If I am unaware that you are late for your appointment, I typically wait 20 minutes and than log out or leave if this is a home visit. In this case it is considered a "no-show". If you notify me that you are running late before or at your appointment time, I will wait and we can use the remaining time.
If you need to change or cancel your appointment please do so before your 24h window, so that we can give your time slot to the next client on the waiting list.
